Edie is sick of the long cold winter in Edmonton, and arranges a spring
trip to Crete for her family. As inexperienced travellers, they soon find
themselves in odd situations, and baffling interchanges with the locals.
Gradually, they find themselves drawn into more serious situations they
are ill-equipped to deal with, but increasingly cannot avoid. As the
adventure unfolds, the family all complicate their lives by unexpected
relationships that blossom on the trip. Life for Tom, Edie, Sandy, and
Ben will never be the same after Crete.

This is about a Canadian family - mum, dad and two teenagers - who find themselves caught up in romantic and dangerous adventures while on holiday in Crete. The teenagers with their raging hormones are sitting ducks for sexual exploits, but their mother too, the middle aged suburban housewife, meets and has a fling with an old flame who shows up unexpectedly. Through a series of misadventures, the family become involved with people on the fringe of serious crime (drug smuggling) and circumstances conspire to give them a chance to foil the illegal traffickers. An interesting twist here is that the solid, dull conventional father, Tom, who alone in the family has had no sexual adventures and really only wants to visit historical sites, unexpectedly emerges as a resourceful man of action who plays a key role in bringing the criminals to justice. The story is told without literary artifice, in straightforward, unpretentious prose. The characters come to life as real people, and the good plotting keeps you turning the pages.Product details
