(i>The Omega Factor starts with an old cargo ship on its last voyage. It's skipper is tired and worn, it's crew ready to reach port and move onto their next assignments, hopefully ones on newer, faster ships with more amenities and better cargo. Only two days out of port they receive a distress call. With all the recent hijackings the Captain wonders if he should answer the call. But what if he doesn't? Can he ignore the threat of lives lost at sea if he avoids the call, can he risk the lives of his crew if it is a hijacking?
I was hooked. I had to see what was going to happen and I wasn't disappointed. When I find a book with a murder mystery, international conspiracy, some bits of a buddy story and a little romance added to sweeten the pot, err plot, I just have to jump in and read it. I am glad I did.
Ms. Franken has penned a good interesting plot with compelling characters, well thought out dialogue and a protagonist who feels real. While it could have read like so many of its genre it didn't. Most novels of this sort are written by men and read mainly by men but with a woman at the writers desk this one is a little more cross gender. I enjoyed it and will read more for Ms. Francken in future.

I liked the characters in the book and came to care about the heroine. But as another reviewer commented there are many editing errors and incorrect word usage. I was able to ignore those for the most part, but as the action heated up the plot holes were a bit too obvious. It made the ending a bit confusing. For the cost it was an ok book.
The story was interesting with plenty of mystery. It went pretty smoothly but they were some grammatical errors, typos, spelling errors.
Omega Factor This book had a great story line and strong character development. Outline of the plot is what attracted me but I must say I'm glad this was a free download because I would have been very disappointed had I paid for a book which was so full of editing and proofing issues. I read an average of 5 to 7 books a week and this is the first I have gotten that I simply could not finish based on the incorrect use of the comma, incomplete and run on sentences and the use of past and present tense in a single sentence just to name a few of the issues I encountered.
The development of strong characters and good story line was not enough to entice me into finishing this read. I'm sure if this were edited and cleaned up it would be a fine book and worth reading but not for me at this time. It makes me want to get out my red pencil and edit it as I did textbooks for so many years when I worked for an author who wrote college textbooks. So sorry my first review has to be such a negative one. I truly wondered if I had read a different book than the other two posted reviews or did I miss a revision somewhere?
